Every spring break throughout high school, I traveled with a school mission organization across the U.S.–Mexico border to Mexicali, a severely under-resourced desert community facing extreme water scarcity.

We lived in tents for ten days without phone service or internet access, dedicating our time entirely to supporting the local community. I contributed to the development of the Agua Viva area by helping renovate churches and children’s learning spaces, while also teaching local students through creative and educational activities. My primary role focused on art education, where I led a face-painting and creative arts group for children.

This experience deeply shaped my perspective on community, creativity, and purpose. It made me realize that I am a mission-driven person who wants to create work that contributes to people beyond aesthetics alone. Since then, many of my undergraduate projects have explored social issues, human experiences, and underserved communities, reflecting my desire to use design and storytelling as tools for meaningful impact.
